Because we work with youth and vulnerable populations, the RDC is required to run 4 background checks on all of its staff, employees, and volunteers:
1). DHS Central Registry.
- Please download and print out this form.
- If you are a community volunteer, please check the box requesting that results be sent to a volunteer agency: Refugee Development Center, 122 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Lansing, MI 48912.
- If you are a student at MSU, results cannot be mailed directly to the RDC, so please check either the box to send them to your address, or the box indicating you will pick them up at the DHS office.
- Michigan residents mail completed form with a copy of your driver’s license or state ID to: DHS, 5303 S. Cedar St., Lansing, MI 48911, or fax them to (517) 887-9500.
- Non-residents of Michigan, mail with a copy of driver’s license or state ID to: Michigan DHS, Children’s Protective Services Program, PO Box 30037, 235 South Grand Ave., Suite 510, Lansing, Michigan 48909, or fax them to: (517) 241-7047.
*You may also stop at either of these offices with a copy of your driver’s license, and ask them to run this check for you while you wait. Otherwise, results will be ready within 10 days.*
2). National Sex Offender Registry. Please visit www.nsopw.gov. Agree to the terms of use, enter your first and last names, and “Search”. Print out the sheet titled: “Search Results”.
3). Michigan Sex Offender Registry. Please visit www.mipsor.state.mi.us. Scroll to the bottom of the page, enter the code shown, and enter your first and last names. Print out the sheet titled: “Search Results”.
4). ICHAT.
- If you are a community volunteer, we will run this one for you.
- If you are in any way affiliated with MSU (student, grad student, professor/staff/employee, or spouse of professor/staff/employee), please stop at the Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement office in the students services building, and fill out their form so they can complete this check. All MSU-affiliated volunteers must be registered at the Center for Service Learning and Civic Engagement.
Please bring to your volunteer orientation or first shift:
- The results you received from the DHS Central Registry
- The search results you printed out from the National Sex Offender Registry
- The search results you printed out from the Michigan Sex Offender Registry
